Celebrities Raise Money for Project ALS by Honor Brodie, InStyle Magazine

Jenifer Estess fights ALS with a little help from her famous friends. "This is a night to celebrate survival," George Clooney said at the L.A. benefit for Project ALS. And celebrate he did.  For despite the tragic effects of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (aka Lou Gehrig's disease), Ben Stiller and Kristen Johnston welcomed guests at the Hollywood Palladium to an evening of fund-raising (more than $1 million), education and of course, not-stop entertainment.  The celebrity hosts are close friends of the charity's founder, Jenifer Estess, whose own career was cut short by ALS after she co-founded the renowned New York theater company Naked Angels.  "We all know it's sad," said David Spade, whose uncle has the disease.  "But we still want to make this night fun."  Thanks to an announcement of new medical breakthroughs and the show's finale -- a rocking set form Sheryl Crow -- that's all the crowd wanted to do.
