Al has been for treatments with Dr. Espy in April, June and October. We are sorry we are so late updating his web page. We will call it “web page complications.” We are up and running now. I know many people emailed and expressed their concern that they where afraid Al had taken a turn for the worse. You will be very happy to hear he is doing well. He is finally taken his fish oil. They have put the liquid into capsules which he can swallow much easier. He takes 30 pills a day plus continues to take one capsule of the Alpha Lipoic Acid. He started taking the capsules after his June appointment. He just came back from his October treatment. Dr. Espy was really pleased how quick the nerves and muscles where responding to the treatment. Before this treatment it would take some muscles 30 to 45 minutes to get the frequency level that she would want. At this session most of the muscles only took 20 minutes. His spirits and strength are always better when he comes back from a treatment. We continue to feel very positive with these treatments and how this has slowed the progression of the illness. It hasn’t stopped it, though. His speech is a little more slurred especially when he is tired or has had too much sugar. He continues to drive, dress and feed himself and do chores around the house. He says he can feel it up in his shoulders now, too. We had a very enjoyable and busy summer. Our grandson, Joseph, came for a month and a half to help Al with all the things he continues to try to do even though his grip is so loose. Joseph was a huge help. He was like Velcro to Al and was his hands. They were on the boat a lot plus working on the ongoing “honey do list” though I think more of Al’s list got done than mine. We had lots of family and friends come this summer. Everyone wanted to come to help Al and I which was very comforting. Al is getting ready to go deer hunting for another year. He has a new deer tree stand that is easier to get into plus he has bought a new rifle that is smaller and lighter than his regular one. You remember how he missed the “big one” last year. His rifle was too heavy for him to lift and shoot so he says “the big one got away”. There shouldn’t be any excuses this year. I emailed everyone a copy of the newspaper article in the July Bar Harbor Times which was written to update everyone on Al and help raise money for the Al Butler Fund. We are going to include it in this update notice so it will be in the web page plus made available for those who missed it. Thank you to all the generous people who have donated. We send our love and a warm, heartfelt thank you for all your prayers, love, and support. Love, Gloria and Al |
